Lancet Series 2017: Health in Humanitarian Crises
2017
This Lancet Series explores major ongoing humanitarian crises in a number of countries, including Syria, Afghanistan, Central African Republic, and others. Consisting of four papers and one article, the series assesses humanitarian interventions and finds wide variation in the quality of evidence and evidence gathering. Compiling lessons learned from recent failures, the Series provides suggestions for successful future interventions. It aims to make the protection of humanitarian workers a central focus, and to outline improvements to leadership and coordination that will make their work more efficient and sustainable.
Series papers and articles include:
- Evidence on Public Health Interventions in Humanitarian Crises
- Public Health Information in Crisis-Affected Populations: A Review of Methods and Their Use for Advocacy and Action
- Recurrent Failings of Medical Humanitarianism: Intractable, Ignored, or Just Exaggerated?
- The Humanitarian System is Not Just Broke, but Broken: Recommendations for Future Humanitarian Action
- Attacks Against Health Care in Syria, 2015–16: Results From a Real-Time Reporting Tool
