Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates: Key Findings of the 2023 Edition

2023

This data publication from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Bank summarizes the key findings of the 2023 Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates, which presents data on the four estimates of prevalence and numbers for child malnutrition: child stunting, overweight, wasting, and severe wasting. It provides global, regional, and country-level estimates and trends from 2000-2022 and a guide for learners to become familiar with new indicators and data. The report also offers:

  • Interactive Dashboards visualizing the latest child malnutrition estimates for 2022 with graphs and figures on regional trends and overviews from 2000-2022 and various indicators
  • Country-Level and Regional Classifications of the four core child malnutrition indicators where users can build and download their own customizable dataset on malnutrition data for a number of regional groupings

UNICEF, WHO, and the World Bank update the joint global and regional estimates of malnutrition every other year, which are derived from the United Nations regions and sub-regions, Sustainable Development Goals, UNICEF, WHO, and World Bank regions, and the World Bank country-income group classifications.
