Disaster Resilience: A National Imperative

2015

This National Academies Press landmark report addresses the urgency of addressing disaster resilience in the U.S. by 2030. As communities and the nation grapple with the fiscal, social, cultural, and environmental costs associated with disasters, it critical to focus on resilience—the capacity to plan for, absorb, recover from, and adapt to disasters. The report provides goals and performance metrics for national resilience; outlines areas for future work within policy, regulation, and research; and makes the case for anticipating—rather than reacting to—future disasters.
