Global Report on Internal Displacement 2023

2023

This annual report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre examines the state of internally displaced peoples (IDPs) worldwide in 2022. It spotlights the situation in several countries complemented with up-to-date global and regional displacement figures, noting that at the end of 2022, a record 71.1 million people lived in displacement. This year’s publication has a special focus on the relationship between internal displacement and food insecurity and examines how conflict and disasters have exacerbated these issues worldwide. Disasters continue to trigger the most internal displacements; however, displacements from conflict and violence reached a record 28.3 million. The report explores the relationship between food security and displacement to identify solutions for IDPs across the globe. The report concludes with recommendations, including unconditional cash assistance for IDPs, skills development, and investments in risk reduction and preparedness measures to bolster resilience.

The report is accompanied by a dynamic web version with interactive maps and data figures, videos, background papers, and a media pack that includes a press release, downloadable companion materials, and infographics.
