This report published by Development Initiatives provides an annual assessment of the global humanitarian financing landscape. The 2023 edition outlines the significant challenges facing the humanitarian system, documenting the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, climate change, and global conflict – and the resulting increase in humanitarian need worldwide. The report provides an overview of humanitarian financing and details how funding has flatlined while demand for humanitarian assistance remains historically high. In 2022, an estimated 406.6 million people needed humanitarian assistance, and the number of long-term, complex crises increased. The report highlights sources of humanitarian assistance and progress in improving the humanitarian system– focusing on local action. The report also presents findings on how additional resources, such as climate finance, could be utilized to address humanitarian crises in countries worldwide.
