2018 Annual Review of Diseases Prioritized Under the Research and Development Blueprint

2018

This report from the World Health Organization (WHO) details a 2018 annual meeting held to review the list of research and development priorities, as determined by the WHO Blueprint. The Blueprint—a cross-sectoral tool developed by WHO—“seeks to identify those diseases that pose a public health risk because of their epidemic potential and for which there are no, or insufficient, countermeasures.” The meeting convened experts in the field and determined there is a need for increased research and development for the following nine diseases:

  • Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF)
  • Zika
  • Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
  • Ebola Virus Disease and Marburg Virus Disease
  • Lassa Fever
  • Nipah and Henipaviral Diseases
