Tuberculosis and HIV: Progress Towards the 2020 Target

2019

This brief report, published by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), provides an update on the global efforts to reduce tuberculosis deaths among people living with HIV. At the 2016 United Nations High-Level Meeting on Ending AIDS, U.N. Member States committed to reducing these deaths by 75 percent by the year 2020. While significant progress has been made—global TB deaths among HIV-positive individuals have fallen by 42 percent since 2010—it has been unevenly distributed and challenges remain, including the need for equity and ensuring that vulnerable groups have access to integrated TB and HIV services. This report includes a high-level summary of the main progress and challenges related to HIV and TB, along with regional and country-level data and a graphical timeline.
