Western Public Health Casebook 2019

2019

This online book is the fourth annual collection of 14 cases written by students in the MPH program of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health at Western University, Canada. The cases touch on diverse topics in public health, including health equity for indigenous peoples, elder abuse in Toronto’s Arab community, supporting students with learning disabilities, combatting the opioid crisis, and more.

The introductory chapter was written by Dr. Michel Deilgat who has acted as the preceptor for the Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate students from Western University. Dr. Deilgat writes about his experiences in public health, his role as the preceptor, and the importance of graduate students becoming comfortable with situations outside of their respective comfort zone. Each case includes guidance for instructors, including learning objectives and discussion questions. The cases (also available for individual download) may be freely copied and used for educational purposes by an accredited educational institution.
