The Global Divide on Homosexuality Persists

2020

This report from the Pew Research Center presents the findings from an analysis on whether people around the world think that homosexuality should be accepted by society or not. Pew conducted a survey across 34 countries from May to October 2019, totaling 38,426 respondents. The analysis found that public opinion on the acceptance of homosexuality remains sharply divided by country, region, and economic development. The authors examined other factors such as age, education, income, gender, religion, and political ideology. The report includes specific results by country, presented both in a global map and other data figures; the study found a rising acceptance of homosexuality over the past two decades in several countries, such as the United Kingdom, Argentina, the United States, South Korea, India, and Kenya. Users can view the full report online and read the topline questionnaire with methodological notes.
