Zinn Education Project: Teach Climate Justice
2024
Climate change affects the very texture of students' lives today, and yet is under-emphasized in many school curricula. This resource portal from the Zinn Education Project shares a variety of classroom-tested lessons and tools for teaching climate justice to elementary, middle school, and high school students. Through the resource portal, teachers can access lessons across multiple subjects for multiple age groups. For high school audiences, some lessons of note include:
- Roleplay: Stories from the Climate Crisis
- The Climate Crisis Trial: A Role Play on the Roots of Global Warming
- Coal, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Moutaintop Removal
- Paradise Lost: Introducing Students to Climate Change Through Story
Each lesson, available for PDF download with free registration, includes insights from educators who have tested the lesson in their classrooms. Other helpful resources include books for teaching climate change, organized by genre; short- and full-length films exploring climate justice; and articles about specific climate actions. Educators can also request to host virtual professional development workshops at their schools with the Zinn Education Project.
