CLEAN (Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network)

2024

CLEAN (Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network) is a collection of more than 700 free learning resources for secondary through higher education classrooms. The resources -- including learning activities, visualizations, videos, and short demonstrations/experiments -- are rigorously reviewed by educators and scientists for quality of content. High school and undergraduate educators can search the collection's numerous resources through multiple lenses: by keyword, grade level, or resource type or by Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Along with the regularly updated resources that can be flexibly adapted for virtual and hybrid learning environments, educators can refresh their understanding on big ideas in climate and energy science through CLEAN's guidance pages. Each page is illustrated with a summary of each of the climate and energy science principle; ideas to support learners; and suggested approaches differentiated by grade level.

Founded in 2010, CLEAN is led by the science education expertise of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Science (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder and the Science Education Resource Center (SERC) at Carleton College. Since 2012, CLEAN has been syndicated to NOAA's climate.gov portal.
