Reimagining WASH: Water Security for All

2021

This report from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) describes the drivers of water insecurity, the impact specifically on children, and approaches needed to ensure water security for all. Currently, 1.42 billion people live in areas of high or extremely high water vulnerability. Poor resource management and overuse, population growth, rapid urbanization, and climate change have all exacerbated water stress, which in turn impacts children's health, development, and future opportunities. To accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goal for water security, the authors emphasize four strategies: improved political commitment and policy change, accelerated financing and capacity development, active business and private sector involvement, and youth champions and agents of change.
