Western Public Health Casebook 2020

2020

This online book is the fifth annual collection of 16 cases written by students in the MPH program of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health at Western University, Canada. The cases touch on diverse topics in public health, including mental health support for LGBTQ+ Muslims, emerging zoonotic disease, health equity in school safety planning, combatting the opioid crisis, and more.

The introductory chapter reflects on public health during a pandemic, reflecting on expansive and intersectional role that the multiplicity of frameworks in graduate public health education -- social determinants, epidemiology, biostatistics—that can support professionals in addressing emerging problems. Each case includes guidance for instructors, including learning objectives and discussion questions. The cases (also available for individual download) may be freely copied and used for educational purposes by an accredited educational institution.
