International Labour Organization

2024

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized United Nations agency that works with representatives of governments, employers, and workers from 187 Member States globally. The ILO sets labor standards and principles, develops work policies, and designs programs promoting decent work for all. Founded on the premise of securing universal peace and protecting workers in the post-World War II era, the ILO bridges the voices of employers, workers, and governments to encourage dialogue and collaboration surrounding the world of work. The ILO’s mission is to advance social justice and ensure human and labor rights are preserved and to promote rights at work, expand decent employment opportunities, and improve social protection worldwide.

The ILO provides comprehensive data and reports surrounding various labor topics and sectors, including child labor, COVID-19, disability and work, employment protection, green jobs, equality and discrimination, and labor migration, among many others. Information and resources related to individual industries can also be explored, including agriculture, education, health services, and transport sectors. The ILO provides a multitude of additional resources related to international labor, including a country knowledge portal, which explores labor laws, standards, and policies by country; a comprehensive overview of international labor standards, guidelines, and procedures; a database of international labor statistics; a portal containing ILO’s recent publications; a research portal, containing flagship reports and research projects; and a multimedia hub, complete with infographics and multimedia materials.
