Lancet Series 2021: Maternal and Child Undernutrition Progress

2021

This Lancet Series reviews the progress on maternal and child undernutrition globally, examining the burden of undernutrition and summarizing evidence-based interventions for improving nutrition outcomes. The papers find that despite some progress, maternal and child undernutrition remains a critical global health concern, especially for low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the prevalence of undernutrition remains high.

The papers in this series emphasize the importance of maternal nutrition outcomes in improving child nutrition and present a range of evidence for interventions focused on health, food systems, social protection, water, sanitation, and hygiene. These interventions aim to accelerate progress toward global nutrition targets for women and children worldwide.
