2023 Food Insecurity in Europe and Central Asia

2023

This report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provides a regional overview of food security and nutrition in Europe and Central Asia. This report provides the latest data on undernourishment, food insecurity, and malnutrition in the region and measures progress toward meeting the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 targets for ending hunger globally.

The 2023 report finds that hunger prevalence remains low in the ECA region, but levels of food insecurity remain significantly higher than prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also analyzes the affordability of healthy diets within the region.

The report provides prevalence estimates for stunting, wasting, and overweight indicators for children under five and statistical tables for additional nutrition indicators, including adult obesity, breastfeeding, and low birthweight. Data tables provide prevalence estimates for each nutrition indicator by country.
