Lancet Series 2022: Alignment of Mental Health and HIV Services
2022
This Lancet Series examines the opportunities to align mental health and HIV services, discussing pathways for improving health outcomes and care at the intersection of HIV and mental health. The papers underscore that HIV and poor mental health are syndemic conditions; poor mental health can increase the risk of HIV, while living with HIV or HIV risk can contribute to poor mental health outcomes.
The papers in this series address the links between HIV and poor mental health and evaluate opportunities to integrate mental health care and HIV services for three specific populations: adolescents, substance users, and men who have sex with men (MSM).
Series papers include:
- From Surviving to Thriving: Integrating Mental Health Care into HIV, Community, and Family Services for Adolescents Living with HIV
- Integrating HIV and Substance Misuse Services: A Person-Centred Approach Grounded in Human Rights
- Integrating HIV and Mental Health Interventions to Address a Global Syndemic Among Men Who Have Sex With Men
The Series articles are accompanied by commentary articles, which focus on HIV and mental health care for additional populations, including pregnant adolescents, female sex workers, and people in prisons.
