Report on Tobacco Control for the Region of the Americas 2022

2023

This report from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) provides an overview of the status of tobacco control in the Region of the Americas and the implementation of policies to combat the tobacco epidemic. The report presents the latest data on the prevalence of tobacco use and trends in the Americas, and analyzes progress toward implementing “MPOWER” measures, the six tobacco control measures established by the World Health Organization (WHO). The report identifies which countries have implemented specific tobacco measures and finds that 25 of 36 Member States in the Americas have implemented at least one MPOWER measure for tobacco control at the highest level. The report also describes challenges threatening progress toward tobacco control in the region, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the accessibility of new and emerging tobacco products.

The report is accompanied by country profiles, which present country-level data for tobacco use and progress toward implementing MPOWER measures.
