This Lancet Pathfinder Commission report focuses on climate and health actions aimed to accelerate progress toward mitigating climate change, specifically focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve the climate goals outlined by the Paris Climate Agreement, actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are critical– and can deliver health co-benefits and improve health outcomes by reducing air pollution, encouraging healthier diets, or increasing physical activity. The report quantifies the health impact of different climate mitigation actions by sector, analyzing whether actions led to an increase or decrease in years of life lost (YLLs) per 100,000 population per year. The authors aim to identify actions that can maximize both emissions reductions and health gains, offering recommendations for achieving health and climate targets worldwide.
