Lancet Series 2018: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Low-Income and Middle-Income Countries
2018
This Lancet Series focuses on access to high-quality and timely pathology and lab medicine (PALM) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as a crucial part of achieving universal health coverage. PALM services help detect disease, inform prognosis and treatment, contribute to public health surveillance, and support medical-legal systems. Strengthening these services in LMICs will be most challenging—those countries have a disproportionately large share of the global burden of disease but a disproportionately low share of health care resources. This series identifies key barriers to providing PALM services, opportunities to overcome these barriers, and recommended actions to ensure provision of effective PALM services.
Series papers include:
- Access to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services: A Crucial Gap
- Improving Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Low-Income and Middle-Income Countries: Roadmap to Solutions
- Delivering Modern, High-Quality, Affordable Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to Low-Income and Middle-Income Countries: A Call to Action
