Guide to Organizations: Global Governance for Health

2022

This primer is intended to introduce students to key facts about selected organizations that were the subject of discussion in the Harvard University course “The Global Health System: Governance Challenges and Institutional Innovations,” jointly offered by the T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Kennedy School of Government. Most of the descriptive text was gathered directly from the organizations’ websites and lightly edited for brevity. Citations for the annual health expenditures in U.S. dollars are provided in Frenk & Moon (2013), “Global Governance Challenges in Health.” The list of organizations described is not meant to be exhaustive or representative, but rather, was chosen to illustrate the various types of actors relevant in the global health system.
