Children's Health: Vulnerability

2017

These compiled resources on children and vulnerability are part of the resource pack on children’s health curated by the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator. Although the global community has agreed on every child’s right to health, education, and safety, not all children are able to enjoy these rights equally. Global forces—including, but not limited to, conflict, climate change, and international trade—interact with a country’s social, political, and economic contexts to shape a child’s overall health and well-being. Because of these complex interactions, some children are more vulnerable than others to events that disrupt childhood. The selected resources explore some of the complex circumstances that threaten a child’s health and well-being, such as child labor, human trafficking, disrupted education, violence, child marriage, and forced migration. They are an introductory snapshot of the multiple vulnerabilities children around the world may experience, and encourage thinking about how these vulnerabilities exacerbate or interact with each other.
