Bringing Global Health Into Liberal Arts Classrooms

2018

This guide from the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator at Harvard University helps teachers and students bring global health concepts into their classrooms from a variety of sources. Primarily targeted at high school liberal arts classes, it guides the user through a two-step process. First, it presents a variety of literary, artistic, and multimedia sources from which inspirations for learning more about global health can creatively be brought into the classroom. Second, it provides step-by-step procedures to take materials related to global health and transform them into easy-to-use classroom activities. For example, a student in a social studies class might listen to a podcast or read a news story at home which relates to health and bring it in to class to share. The class could then use one of the ready-made activities in this guide to understand the issue further. The guide also demonstrates how existing school curriculum can be extended to include lessons about public health.
