Lancet Commission 2019: Accelerating the Elimination of Viral Hepatitis

2019

This commission report from The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology examines the current global state of viral hepatitis, which represents a major threat to public health and is a leading cause of death worldwide, claiming 1.34 million lives annually. The World Health Organization’s member states have committed to a global reduction in hepatitis-related deaths by 65 percent and new infections by 90 percent by the year 2030; with advances in highly effective prevention and treatment measures, these goals are ambitious but realistic. The commission report identifies priorities and strategies for countries, regions, and the global community to accelerate efforts to achieve these targets.
