Global Education Monitoring Report 2017/18: Accountability in Education

2018

This report from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) assesses global progress toward the Sustainable Development Goal on education (SDG4) and its 10 targets, which address primary and secondary education, early childhood, technical and adult education, work skills, equity, literacy and numeracy, global citizenship, learning environments, scholarships, and teachers. The report also highlights education’s connection to the other SDGs, including health, nutrition, and water. It explores accountability in education with an eye toward how all relevant stakeholders—such as governments, schools, teachers, parents, the international community, and the private sector—can be held accountable for inclusive, equitable, quality education for all students. UNESCO has published numerous companion resources to the report, including an online edition, a brief “highlights” version, an executive summary, statistical tables, background papers and country case studies, slide presentations, a gender review report, and a version for youth. This report is the second in an annual series of Global Education Monitoring (GEM) reports.
