Poverty and Shared Prosperity 2022

2022

This report from the World Bank presents the latest estimates and trends in global poverty and shared prosperity. The 2022 report analyzes the landscape of poverty worldwide–especially in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to the largest setback in reducing global poverty in 20 years. The report examines the magnitude and impact of severe economic shocks spurred by converging crises on global poverty and outlines inequalities within countries worldwide.

This year’s report also focuses on fiscal policy, analyzing the fiscal response to the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighting lessons learned. The report discusses the impact of taxes and other fiscal policies on poverty and inequality, providing recommendations for key policy priorities to promote growth and protect households against crises. The report includes poverty and prosperity data by country and provides a data visualization of projected progress in global poverty reduction over time.
