Making Peace With Nature: A Scientific Blueprint to Tackle the Climate, Biodiversity and Pollution Emergencies

2021

This is the first synthesis report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on how climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution can be tackled within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs. The report underscores that ambitious action is required by governments, businesses, and communities to prevent and reverse the worst impacts of environmental decline. At its heart, such coordinated action demands understanding the value of nature and integrating that into global decision-making.

At present, unsustainable development is impeding Earth’s capacity to sustain human well-being—a product of the world’s inability to meet its global commitments to limit environmental damage. Failing to meet these commitments also impacts the global community’s capacity to meet the rest of the SDGs, but transformed economic and social systems can support progress towards a sustainable future. This flagship report is accompanied by an executive summary, interactive summary, a fact sheet of key messages, and an introductory video.
