Lancet Series 2021: Heat and Health
2021
This Lancet Series explores the impact of hot weather and extreme temperatures on human health, and the growing harms they pose as global climate change progresses. As shifts in climate continue and extreme heat events become more permanent, heat-related morbidity and mortality are expected to increase, along with other health risks caused by hot weather, including potential impacts on mental health, pregnancy outcomes, and occupational health.
The papers in this series examine the physiological, environmental, and social factors contributing to heat-related health risks, and explore potential solutions and response strategies, ranging from individual cooling to city infrastructure and landscape changes.
Series papers include:
- Hot Weather and Heat Extremes: Health Risks
- Reducing the Health Effects of Hot Weather and Heat Extremes: From Personal Cooling Strategies to Green Cities
The Series articles are accompanied by a profile and an editorial.
