This interactive toolkit published by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) provides resources and lessons concerning the fundamentals of human migration. The toolkit includes eleven modules that each focus on a specific aspect of migration:
- Module 1: What is Migration?
- Module 2: Who Migrates?
- Module 3: Why Do People Migrate?
- Module 4: Where Do People Migrate?
- Module 5: How Do People Migrate?
- Module 6: When Do People Migrate?
- Module 7: Implications of Migration
- Module 8: Climate Change
- Module 9: Digital Technology and Migration
- Module 10: Disinformation about Migration
- Module 11: COVID-19’s Impact on Migration
Each module contains learning objectives and instructions, along with a resource guide, which includes key terms, data figures, and introductory discussion questions. The modules contain both text and data case-studies on various migration topics, which allow students to learn how concepts are applied in specific regional contexts. Each module also includes interactive scenarios, which provide various activities for students based on real-world situations.
The World Migration Interactive Educators’ Toolkit draws on research from IOM’s World Migration Report series, which presents the latest data on human migration and emerging global challenges related to migration. For additional data, the most recent version of the report, World Migration Report 2022, can be accessed online. The Educators’ Toolkit is freely available to use and can be downloaded in PDF format.
