World Mental Health Report: Transforming Mental Health for All

2022

This report from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights why and where change is needed to achieve better mental health worldwide. In addition to providing an accessible summary of key concepts and drivers of mental health, the report outlines global threats that threaten progress, from public health emergencies like COVID-19, economic and social inequities, and protracted conflicts. The report further outlines current epidemiological trends and the economic consequences of inaction.

The report, aimed at policymakers, emphasizes "three transformatic pathways" towards better mental health: deepening value and commitment (e.g., increasing investments, promoting social inclusion); reshaping environments; and strengthening mental health care (e.g., building community networks of services, promoting patient-centered and affordable care.) The report integrates short narratives from people around the world with the lived experience of mental health conditions, which illustrate the diversity of effective health and social support as well as the challenges in accessing needed care. The report is also accompanied by an executive summary.
