Lancet Series 2023: Lessons From COVID-19 to Manage Infectious Diseases in Low-income and Middle-Income Countries
2023
This Lancet Series analyzes the public health response to the global COVI9-19 pandemic in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Drawing on the inequities that characterized the COVID-19 response in LMICs– such as inequitable access to vaccines– the Series examines the failures and lessons learned to improve the response and management of future infectious disease outbreaks. The Series articles discuss opportunities for leveraging COVID-19 vaccine innovation in Africa, ways to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and how to establish an equitable path forward in strengthening the preparedness of low-income and middle-income countries to respond to future global health threats.
Series papers include:
- Opportunities and Challenges of Leveraging COVID-19 Vaccine Innovation and Technologies for Developing Sustainable Vaccine Manufacturing Capabilities in Africa
- How Can Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic Enhance Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance and Stewardship?
- Leveraging Lessons From the COVID-19 Pandemic to Strengthen Low-Income and Middle-Income Country Preparedness for Future Global Health Threats
The Series is accompanied by a commentary article.
